Happy Father’s Day!
Today being a day dedicated to the most important man in a daughter’s life, here’s a letter to the most important man in my life –
For me the kitchen is a place where mom and you concoct delectables. And the hospital is a place that mom and you go to every day and offer healthcare and advice to people. What I mean to say is, there is no place where only you belong and mom doesn’t, and vice versa. I am glad to have grown in an environment witnessing both of you play your better half’s part as demanded by the circumstances. That is what I know as equality. And that is what I guess the world needs to understand.
Thank you for making me not believe in stereotypes. Thank you for looking out for the two most important women in your life among others. In today’s world feminism is still misconstrued. A cry for equality gets interpreted as a cry for help by the “weak”. Thank you for not considering us mere weak mortals.
You are as good in your doctor’s apron as you are in your chef’s hat. But you are the best as my dad. You are the best man in my life, and you will always be.
Last year on father’s day I wrote you a poem. I am just going to reiterate the same (be lazy in other words)
Those little fingers felt secure within your fist,
as you led me through places mundane and rich
Everything tumultuous came back to order
because your words were placebo and wonder
The lessons you have imparted have stayed
as my best companions and never have betrayed
The care, the support, the affection, the love,
never-ending like the magic porridge pot
The strong heart of yours has rejoiced in my glory
When I faltered it has taught me to act bravely
Always you have wanted me to shoot for the stars
While pressing on staying grounded so I could get that far
You have undoubtedly been my superhero, very exemplary
My life until this day and days to come is testimony
Happy Father’s day!
P.S.– Of all the hats you wear, I tried putting on the chef’s hat today. Thank you also for the genes!
