Old habits die hard. Hence, in an era where blogging might be (sort of) passe’, I treasure my habits.
Pixel La Vie
A portmanteau of Pixel and La vie that I made up while brainstorming with the husband, is a depiction of the pixels (read stories) of my life. The inspiration for the name comes from my interest in photography and also from the book and the author (Anne Lamott) of “Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life“. She writes –
“Thirty years ago my older brother, who was ten years old at the time, was trying to get a report on birds written that he’d had three months to write, which was due the next day. We were out at our family cabin in Bolinas, and he was at the kitchen table, close to tears, surrounded by binder paper and pencils and unopened books on birds, immobilized by the hugeness of the task ahead. Then my father sat down beside him, put his arm around my brother’s shoulder, and said, ‘Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.”
I intend to build my blog pixel by pixel, keeping with the ultimate goal of not overwhelming myself and my readers with content. Bite size stories, that I shall metaphorically refer to as pixels (smallest element of an image that can be individually processed), will form the building block of this blog of mine.
The title of my website reads Hors d’oeuvre. The rationale behind the name was to capture the purpose and content of my writing. The etymology and the meaning of the word do justice to what I intend to convey through my writing – Something extraordinary from an ordinary life of mine –
- Of twists I lend to the food I eat (literally, hors d’oeuvre)
- Of impulsive jaunts of mine, near and far, and interesting finds along the way
- Of books and how extraordinary writing enriches the mind
- Of other quirks of mine (I am a hoarder of food props!)
